Addiction Awareness Meditation
Mondays at 5:30P
Description
Addiction Awareness Meditation is an original, secular practice developed by Buddhist monk Sokuzan, coming out of his 50 years of practice and teaching. While teaching in prisons and drug rehabilitation facilities, it became apparent that people were supported with this awareness practice who did not necessarily need or find support in a religious setting. Addiction Awareness Meditation is a result and ongoing process of this lifelong intention of helping others. This practice is not about fixing you or getting you to change into being a different person. It is about helping you use a particular awareness technique to see the root causes of your particular addiction, which may be different than any other person who also refers to themself as being an addict. It is about your awareness. Everyone is welcome as they are. People are respected as unique individuals with their own approaches to addiction, including what that concept means to them. Addiction Awareness Meditation is an hour-long class every Monday at 5:30pm at Karma House Community Wellness Center, provided on a donation basis: Addiction Awareness Meditation 5:30-6:00 Guided/Open Meditation 6:00-6:30 Book Study The class is facilitated by monk and practitioner Shōdō, who will guide participants through 30 minutes of sitting meditation and 30 minutes of book study on Addiction Awareness Meditation , a book from Sokuzan that is a compilation of his talks and teachings that were given at drug rehabilitation facilities and other locations on the topic of addiction and meditation practice. Please refrain from bringing and using drugs or alcohol. Karma House is on a drug- and smoke-free campus, so please also take any smoking/vaping to the sidewalk out of respect for our agreement here.
